Tap Classes

Tap

This 45-minute class explores the dance style that creates music with your feet and helps find one’s sense of rhythm. Classes focus on clarity of sounds and speed of movement, with increasing intricacy as students progresses through the levels. All levels are based on the Al Gilbert curriculum, which develops proper tap technique. To prepare our students for any professional situation, they are taught both Broadway and Rhythm Tap styles.

In the beginning levels, students are taught technique fundamentals and terminology. Classes start with a warm-up at barre or in center. The class continues to include across the floor progressions and exercises. Tap class will typically wrap up with a center combination or by learning choreography for a performance piece, such as the holiday show or our summer recital.

Our more advanced levels introduce Rhythm tap. This style teaches dancers focus even more on musicality, dynamics and timing of their sounds. This taught through intricate footwork and rhythms. Occasionally our more advanced students will wrap up the class by studying and practicing their improv skills. Improv teaches students to think quickly and express themselves while giving them the opportunity to be creative with their own movement.

Vibe offers several youth tap levels (Tap 3-Tap 8) and students are placed based upon ability and experience. Tap classes are offered to students age 6 years and older.
